Whisper Cove

You have inherited Aunt Coral's run-down café in Whisper Cove, a little harbor town where everybody talks. Merge seafood, pastries, drinks and flowers to serve the townsfolk, who gossip while they wait. The stars you earn go into fixing up the harbor, one task at a time, and five chapters of small-town secrets unfold along the way. There's a romance too, if you want one, and a lighthouse with a story of its own.
It's a phone game first, so it's held upright. It's one of my small AI-made games; how they're all made is in Making small games with AI.
Play it
▶ Whisper Cove — a browser game, playable on the post's page.
On a phone, hold it upright. Tap Merge! to open the board. Tap a generator to get items and drag an item onto its twin to merge them. Tap Serve when an order is ready, and spend your stars on the next task in the harbor. Drag to look around the harbor and pinch to zoom, tap a townsperson to hear the gossip, and tap a bubble to start a mini-game.
On a computer it's the same with the mouse: click, drag and hold. The wheel zooms the harbor and Esc closes the open window.
It's about 50 MB to download and it needs a fair bit of memory, so on an older iPhone the page may reload. Your progress is kept on this page, in this browser. If your phone doesn't give you a keyboard for your name, you'll be Mia.

How it was made
Whisper Cove was made over three days in October. The very first version already had the merge board, the 3D harbor, the story and seven mini-games. After that came a tutorial and self-tests, softer light, home decorating and the match-3, townsfolk going about their day, and last a fifth chapter with a real ending. The art, sounds and music come from Asset Store packs I already owned, and the buttons and windows are laid out in code.
It tests itself with bots. One plays all eight mini-games. Another plays the whole story: all 35 tasks, every scene and every choice, and the ending, once for each romance route. A third places all 159 pieces of furniture and checks 34 spots in the rooms. All of it runs at once in about two minutes.
Making the version for this page found a bug the tests had missed. The bubble that starts free fishing sat behind the camera, so it never showed up on any screen, and once the story's fishing tasks were done you couldn't fish anymore. It's fixed in the version on this page.
Hit me up if you find a bug, or when you make it to the lighthouse.
