So hacker wars was born awhile ago and its on its 7. iteration of complete rebuilds where some was playable and we did compete. But I am never pleased with this game and I probably have a full year of code in it. I don't even think it is going to end until it's perfect.
The thing though is that it took me from coding the hard stupid way to trying to make my own framework and graphics.
After the 4. iteration i discovered Laravel and started coding on that, and it was blazing fast. I also payed for graphics now, and it takes development time and cuts it by so much it's ridicules compared to doing it all alone.
In any case Hacker-Wars has been my way of making me a better programmer and it has been my teacher for a while and made me able to ditch out complete works in a weekend, like this site haakony.no, minihost, or snarthelg.
Making AI to compete against, that act as players. And working out how to do complex back end coding has also been a fun challenge.
Though the next iteration will incorporate real time graphics. I am not quite sure how to do it, it will probably be some form of Unity or equal and will be a builder/defense type deal where you can monitor slow progress of getting resources and defending stuff from the webpage and maybe mobile app.
